Venezia are reportedly interested in signing Lazio winger Matteo Canciellieri as they look to enhance their squad following their promotion to the top flight.
The Venetians returned Serie A after prevailing in the playoffs at Cremonese’s expense, thus joining Parma and Como. Therefore, the Lagunari are eager to bolster their ranks with exciting new names who can help them avoid an immediate return to the second division.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Venezia have set their sights on Cancellieri who will return to Lazio following a loan spell at Empoli. The newly-promoted club has just appointed Eusebio Di Francesco as the new head coach, so they can now turn their attention to the transfer market.

Canciellieri is a Roma youth product who eventually made his breakthrough at Hellas Verona, which earned him a return to the Italian capital in 2022, but this time through the gates of Lazio. After struggling for playing time under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri in his first campaign at Formello, the 22-year-old was sent on loan last summer to garner valuable Serie A experience.
The winger enjoyed a decent campaign in Tuscany, scoring four goals and providing three assists, including the one that secured Empoli’s dramatic last-gasp survival. Cancellieri’s contract with Lazio is valid until June 2023.
He is not a bad player at all, huge room for growth and ANY club trying to stay up in Serie A will benefit massively from his presence and contributions. We should ask for slightly above his value and because Venezia won’t be able to match it, we can ask say 20-30% resale clause to earn if he explodes (that can easily happen with Di Francescos attacking play, just look at what he got out of Soule last season).
