Almeria have officially announced the signing of Lazio goalkeeper Luis Maximiano on a permanent basis.

The Portuguese has been on the Biancocelesti’s books since making the move from Granada in the summer of 2022. However, a disappointing Serie A debut marred his stint in the Italian capital, and with Ivan Provedel producing the goods between the posts, Maximiano never had the chance to recover.

Therefore, the 25-year-old spent the last campaign on loan at Almeria where he managed to claim a starting berth, making 34 appearances across all competitions. The Spanish club has now announced through its social channels the purchase of the goalkeeper who will remain at the Power Horse Stadium on a permanent basis.

Maximiano has penned a contract with Almeria valid until June 2029, and Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà reveals that Lazio have received a transfer fee worth €8 million.

The Biancocelesti already have two reliable options between the sticks in the shape of Provedel and the young Christos Mandas. The latter proved to be a solid backup during the final stages of the season when the Italian was nursing an injury. The 22-year-old has thus attracted the interest of Manchester City who would reportedly like to add him to their U23 squad.
