Baroni Delighted to Join Lazio: “The Pinnacle of My Career”

Marco Baroni expressed his joy and pride to be appointed as the new Lazio manager during his unveiling in a press conference held on Monday, July 8, 2024 (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).

The 60-year-old guided Hellas Verona towards safety last term despite seeing his squad depleted in the middle of the campaign. His exploits earned him a call from Lazio President Claudio Lotito who appointed him as a successor for Igor Tudor.

Baroni described his appointment at the helm of the Italian capital side as the best moment of his managerial career.

I was delighted to sign for Lazio. It’s the pinnacle of my career. There is desire and awareness from myself and the staff. I am someone who loves challenges, I want to pass this on to the team.

We must not be afraid, but instead have the desire for a challenge. The team must not play for itself, but for the fans. We will work on it.

I inherit a team that has a work culture, but we will have to intensify it, which is something that I have always brought to my teams in the past, that is, the value aspect that makes the difference on all levels. We need the Lazio spirit right away.

The new Biancocelesti coach also says he’s pleased with the squad he has at his disposal.

I never look at what is missing, but instead on what I have. Young players have arrived, so there is a rejuvenation process that matches the football we want to adopt. I always put the players at the center of the project, we have to help them optimize their performances.

Baroni reveals he’ll play with a four-man defense, as his system could vary between 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1.

The system will definitely include a 4-man defense with two wingers. Then there are small variables. But the most important aspects are balance, ferocity and the ability to take on opponents. I like rhythmic football in both phases.

The coach also named the persons who will constitute his technical staff.

Del Rosso is my assistant coach. Petruolo is the athletic trainer, he will work with Di Dio. There are other collaborators like Martino and Lami, while Valanzano will be the match analyst. We also found Viotti and Lamberti here. They join our staff as trainers.
