Reports in the Italian press believe selling Ciro Immobile could help Lazio secure an agreement with Manchester United for Mason Greenwood.
In recent days, Besiktas have agreed terms with the Italian veteran and are currently working on an accord with the Biancocelesti. Some even suggest that two clubs are ironing out the final details, with the official announcement expected in the coming days. However, Immobile’s departure will leave a hole in Marco Baroni’s attacking department.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Immobile’s sale could provide the necessary funds to poach Greenwood’s signature. Lazio would collect circa €2.5 million from offloading the club captain, which would allow them to raise their offer for the English winger to €25 million in addition to a 50% sell-on fee.
Lazio Planning to Replace Immobile With Greenwood
The Italian capital side is currently facing stern competition from Olympique Marseille who are also keen to sign Greenwood. However, the player was taken aback by the words of the Marseille mayor who also turned a section of the fans against the 22-year-old.
On the other hand, Greenwood would be in favor of a transfer to Lazio, explains Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. The transfer market guru reveals Friday could be a decisive day on this front.
Moreover, Alfredo Pedullà believes Greenwood could be Immobile’s replacement at Lazio, although he plays in a different position. The Italian journalist claims that the Biancocelesti could opt against signing a like-to-like replacement for the departing captain, snubbing Giovanni Simeone and Boulaye Dia, and instead focusing on luring Greenwood to the Italian capital.
