Real Madrid are reportedly considering bringing back Lazio defender Mario Gila back to the Spanish capital.
The 23-year-old started his career at Damm Youth before joining Espanyol’s ranks in 2017. A year later, he signed for Los Merengues and represented their U19 side as well as the club’s B-team known as Real Madrid Castilla.
In the summer of 2022, Lazio splashed €6 million to secure the centre-back’s services, while the reigning European champions retained a 50% sell-on fee over a future sale.
Real Madrid Reignite Interest in Lazio Defender Mario Gila
In recent months, the Spanish giants have been pondering a move for their former defender, pouncing on their sell-on fee which would effectively turn into a discount.
According to Il Messaggero via LazioNews24, Real Madrid have rekindled their interest Gila, which could pose a problem for Lazio who consider the Spaniard a key player for next season.
As the source tells it, the Biancoceselti have already rejected offers for the Barcelona native worth €20 million. But it remains to be seen if they’ll be able to resist a charge from Los Blancos.
Gila has made 41 appearances for Lazio across all competitions since joining the Serie A club two years ago. His contract with the Aquile is valid until June 2027.
I hope we manage to keep him, unless an enormous offer comes in, he stays put.
