Lazio still have some hope of acquiring the services of Mason Greenwood this summer, as the player keeps Olympique Marseille on hold.
The 22-year-old would reportedly love to play his football in the Italian capital where he feels appreciated, but the Biancocelesti haven’t been able to strike an agreement with the Premier League giants just yet.
In recent weeks, Marseille have managed to place themselves ahead of the competition for Greenwood’s signature. However, unwelcoming words from the city mayor have taken the winger aback. So according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, Greenwood has yet to hand a definitive answer for the Ligue 1 side.
Lazio Still Have Hopes of Signing Greenwood
Therefore, Lazio remain in the race for the England international. Pedullà reveals the club’s intermediary has scheduled a new meeting with the player’s entourage, and will inform Lazio Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani of any new development on this front.
The journalist also adds that Lazio have decided to extend the ultimatum that they had previously set before they decide to officially abandon the pursuit of Greenwood and focus on alternative profiles. In the meantime, Napoli have also inquired about the winger.
For his part, Lazio President Claudio Lotito had raised some eyebrows while commenting on the matter. The club patron revealed that he offered Man United a transfer fee of €25 million in addition to a 50% sell-on fee while accusing Juventus and Napoli of trying to sabotage the operation.
