Lazio are reportedly about to finalize an agreement with Gaetano Castrovilli who’s currently a free agent after leaving Fiorentina.

The 27-year-old started his career at Bari before joining the Viola in 2017. A few years later, the Italian rose to prominence, cementing himself as one of the most promising up-and-coming midfielders in Serie A. This even earned him a place in Italy’s Euro 2020 squad where he made a single appearance during the Azzurri’s triumphant campaign.

However, recurring injury problems derailed his progress. He has already missed 600 matches due to various knocks, only making 44 appearances over the past three campaigns. Therefore, Fiorentina decided to part ways with the midfielder once his contract expired at the end of last season.

Lazio Set to Sign Castrovilli on Free Transfer

However, according to Tutto Mercato Web, Castrovilli has already found himself a new home, as he’s on the cusp of signing for Lazio following a meeting between the player’s entourage and Biancocelesti Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani.

The source believes that the deal is almost done, largely thanks to the excellent rapport between the club and the player’s Agent, Alessandro Lucci. The Biancocelesti have thus beaten competition from Bologna, and the report rules out last-minute twists.

Castrovilli should sign a one-year contract with an option for another two years upon reaching a certain number of appearances. The former Fiorentina man should earn a salary of just over €2 million.
