Stade Rennais are reportedly interested in making a move for unneeded Lazio winger Matteo Cancellieri this summer.
The 22-year-old Italian forward was sent out to Empoli on loan for the 2023-24 season, where he impressed across his 36 matches, scoring four goals and providing three assists in 1784 minutes of action, proving himself in the topflight.
Cancellieri never managed to settle with Lazio, failing to directly contribute to a single goal across his 30 appearances, and he isn’t expected to be part of Marco Baroni’s new project going forward, making a departure this summer likely.
As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Stade Rennais are keeping a close eye on Cancellieri and could approach Lazio in the coming days to discuss a possible deal for the winger, who is contracted to the Biancocelesti until June 2027.
The 22-year-old has an estimated market value of around €4-5 million, having cost around €8.5 million from Hellas Verona two years ago.
I do like Cancellieri, I think he hasn’t shown even half of his capabilities but we can’t wait, especially not with Tchaouna and Gustav in same positions so it’s for everyone’s benefit if he can make that leap.
He is a good guy with ambition so Rennes would get someone who will give back whay they’ve spent.
Also, his qualities will matter more in the farmers league, in Serie A being quick isn’t good enough..
