Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel discussed a host of topics in a long interview with Radiosei (via Alfredopedulla.com).

The 30-year-old joined the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2022 following an impressive stint at Spezia. He immediately cemented himself as a regular starter at the Stadio Olimpico. The custodian has already formed a solid bond with the club, and reiterates his desire to stay while also looking back on the injury he suffered last season.

When I joined Lazio I was happy to be here but I also wanted to be an important part of the club. I wanted to give my contribution, always trying my best, beyond the initial expectations. Results also come through hard work, not just by playing the matches.

I have shown that I am back in good shape despite the injury. For me it is also a reason, a stimulus, to seek further growth to earn something more in the future. I must also thank the players who have left, as they have given so much to Lazio over the years. They made me understand what it means to be here.

Provedel believes Danilo Cataldi would be the rightful choice to inherit the captain’s armband following Ciro Immobile’s departure.

Based on what I experienced in the locker room, Danilo Cataldi would be the right choice. He has been here for a long time, and more than anyone else he has made me understand what it means to be at Lazio.

The Italy international denies concrete interest from the Premier League, while suggesting that his young teammate Christos Mandas should leave in search of additional playing time.

You should call my agent and ask him. He and I only talk when there is something concrete, and there hasn’t been any lately. I have read something in the news too, but I am very happy here and I haven’t had any particular butterflies in my head.

Mandas is a very good keeper, a hard worker. For me, a goalkeeper must always play, especially if he is young. Obviously the choice is up to the club, which will make its considerations for the good of the team and the player.

Provedel Happy to Stay at Lazio

Provedel paid tribute to former Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri while hinting that Igor Tudor’s methods were his undoing.

I want to thank Sarri, if I am here it is thanks to him. He gave me the chance to play for Lazio and prove my worth. I tried to make him reconsider his decision, but he had already resigned.

I didn’t spend much time in the locker room with Tudor, so I couldn’t say what went wrong. But the work methods and the approach to training were certainly different, there was no harmony with the team. In general, however, it was a particular year. Everything seemed more difficult.

Finally, the goalkeeper believes that Lazio are on the right track under the guidance of their new manager Marco Baroni.

The coach has started to have a soft approach with us. He hasn’t changed anything, he has been able to take us in the right direction. We have so many good qualities, but also many things to improve. The boys are working with enthusiasm.

  1. I absolutely love Ivan. He has already graved his name into Lazio forever with that Atleti goal, but man he is so much more than that one moment, a brilliant shot stopper and not to forget a humble, good man.

I hope he stays injury free, I wish Mandas could stay but he won’t play too much unless another episode happens to Provedel so maybe any 1st division team in top5 European leagues surely will LOVE to get him(maybe even a Dutch/Portuguese 1st div)

    1. On loan, the Greek is our player an absolute gem so he can’t be let go without a buyback clause.
