Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzi revisits his maiden campaign in Italian football while promising improvement ahead of the upcoming season. The 25-year-old completed a transfer from Olympique Marseille last summer and established himself as an important player under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri.
Although his fortunes turned sour following an undesired reunion with Igor Tudor, the Frenchman preferred to focus on the positive takeaways from his first year at Lazio in an interview with the club’s social channels (via La Lazio Siamo Noi). This includes a memorable win over Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16.
We had some great memories in the Champions League last season. It was a great campaign .The fans especially enjoyed the home win against Bayern Munich, it’s a great memory that we still cherish. And of course, it was fantastic to beat Roma in the Derby at home.
Guendouzi Promises Lazio Supporters to Further Improve
Guendouzi also insists he can still improve his game, especially when it comes to goal contribution.
I can definitely improve a lot, I’m still young and I can evolve. I have to score more and produce more assists, but I’m definitely a stronger player than I was last year. I feel good and I’m sure we can get good results because we have a good squad.
The midfielder also emphasized the importance of the Lazio supporters, while vowing to give his all for the club’s cause.
The fans are a fundamental part of this club, it is very important to be all united. We know we have to fight for them and give everything on the pitch. They love us because even if we lose some games, we always fight for the club and for the fans. Together we can achieve our goals.
