The Biancocelseti have recently bid farewell to their legendary skipper Ciro Immobile who sealed a transfer to Besiktas. While Taty Castellanos has been handed the daunting task of replacing the Italian’s generous goal contribution, it remains to be seen who will inherit the captain’s armband.

But as Il Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) tells it, this won’t be a straightforward decision due to internal disagreements.

New #10 Mattia Zaccagni?

The Roman newspaper reveals that the club’s hierarchy would like to crown Mattia Zaccagni as the new captain. The 29-year-old is a popular figure among the club’s supporters and is also admired by the management, particularly club president Claudio Lotito who often sings his praise.

The Italy international has been armoured with a long-term contract valid until 2029 and also inherited Luis Alberto’s Number 10 jersey. Hence, the armband would be the cherry on top.

Laziale Danilo Cataldi?

Nevertheless, the locker room does not share the management’s vision. Instead, key figures like Ivan Provedel and Adam Marusic have recently voiced their support for Danilo Cataldi. While Zaccagni has only been at the Italian capital side since 2021, the midfielder is a Lazio youth product and a lifelong supporter of the club.

Nevertheless, Cataldi is no longer in Lotito’s good grace following an alleged fallout, with some reports even linking the 29-year-old with a potential summer exit. So it remains to be seen which candidate will prevail at the end of the day.
