Lazio will soon recover the services of Mario Gila who will make an imminent return from injury in the coming days, but the shadow of Real Madrid is still looming over the player’s future.
The Catalan defender started his career at CF Damm and then had a brief experience at Espanyol before joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2018. The 23-year-old represented Los Blancos at the U19 level before earning a promotion to the club’s second team, RM Castilla, in 2019.
Lazio then sealed Gila’s signature in 2022, and he’s been gradually carving himself a significant role at the back. However, this pre-season started on a negative note for the Spaniard who suffered a broken toe in the early days.
Real Madrid Continue to Monitor Lazio Defender Gila
But according to Il Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Gila is now clinically cleared, and should thus make his return to group training starting next week. The source expects the defender to take part in the club’s tour abroad. The medical staff will be closely monitoring his situation, with the aim of recovering his full powers ahead of the Serie A opener against Venezia.
But in the meantime, the report mentions how the Barcelona native continues to be linked with a return to Real Madrid. Some Spanish media outlets believe that the European champions are keeping close tabs on the Lazio man with the aim of launching an offer at some point during the summer transfer session.
Gila’s contact with the Biancocelesti runs until June 2027. Transfermarkt estimates his current market value at €13 million.
