The Sporting Director of Olympique Lyonnais David Friio reveals that Lazio transfer target Rayan Cherki is heading toward the exit door.
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder joined the French club as a mere child and went through every age group before earning a promotion to the senior squad in 2020. But with his contract expiring next year and no renewal on the horizon, Lyon have resigned to the fact that the youngster will leave the club this summer.
Lazio Target Cherki Set to Leave Lyon
Friio admitted as much in his interview with Le Progres (via LazioNews24). The Lyon Sporting Director confirms Cherki will leave the club this summer, but doesn’t know whether he will join Paris Saint-Germain or leave Ligue 1 altogether in favour of an experience abroad.
We spoke to him at the beginning of the summer and we are trying to find a solution. He will definitely leave. I don’t what would be the better destination, abroad or PSG. I think it should be a win-win situation anyway.
He is a son of the club who has given us a lot since, but there are moments in a player’s career when he has to look elsewhere, and the club that will sign him will reap all the benefits.
