Lazio full-back Mohamed Fares is reportedly in talks with Greek side Panserraikos over a potential summer transfer.

The 28-year-old has become an almost forgotten figure at the Stadio Olimpico. The French-Algerian spent his formative years at Bordeaux and Hellas Verona before getting his breakthrough at SPAL. In the summer of 2020, Lazio signed the left-back for €8 million but between injuries and unimpressive displays, he never left a positive mark in the Italian capital.

Fares had loan spells at Genoa, Torino, and most recently Brescia in Serie B. The Algerian international returned to Formello this summer, but new Lazio coach Marco Baroni doesn’t intend to rely on his services, so the management is now working on finding him a new club.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, Fares is open to joining Panserraikos. Talks are currently underway between the parties, so it remains to be seen if the Greek club will be able to reach an agreement with Lazio over the figures and the formula of the transfer.

As the journalist explains, the Biancocelesti are desperate to offload some of the deadwood as soon as possible to make room on the squad list for a new arrival – possibly Sassuolo winger Armand Laurienté.
