Lazio have reportedly made the first step in their attempts to bring Napoli midfielder Michael Folorunsho back to the Italian capital.

The 26-year-old spent two years among Lazio’s youth ranks before departing in 2017. He later signed for Napoli in 2019 but has been constantly loaned out. After spending several campaigns in Serie B, the Italian finally earned his opportunity in the top flight and managed to produce a stellar campaign under the guidance of Marco Baroni at Hellas Verona.

Folorunsho’s exploits earned him a call-up to Italy’s ill-fated Euro 2024 campaign as well as an opportunity to prove himself at his parent club. But while his summer started with a contract extension, things swiftly turned sour, with the player finding himself outside Antonio Conte’s project. He has recently deleted all social media posts with him in a Napoli shirt.

Therefore, a divorce appears inevitable at this point, and Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà believes a return to Lazio could be on the cards. The source reveals that the Biancocelesti have made contact with the player’s entourage.

Earlier this summer, Atalanta fancied a move for the Roma native, but have long resorted to alternative profiles. Fiorentina have also been probing about the player, but a return to Lazio and a reunion with Baroni could be enough to sway the player.

Folorunsho is a central midfielder but played in a more advanced role on the pitch last term. He scored five goals in Serie A last season, showcasing a knack for producing long-range scorchers.
