Lazio are edging closer to signing Napoli midfielder Michael Folorunsho but they want to make room in the squad first by selling one of the players outside of the current project.

The 26-year-old has recently emerged as the favourite candidate to bolster Marco Baroni’s middle of the park. The two enjoyed prosperous collaborations at Reggina and Hellas Verona, and with the Italy international on Napoli’s transfer list after losing the favour of Antonio Conte, the Biancocelesti are hoping to bring him back to the Italian Capital.

Lazio Closing in on Folorunsho

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, Lazio and Folorunsho are both hellbent on reaching the finish line, and this could ensue sooner rather than later thanks to a positive meeting that ensued recently. The source expects the attacking midfielder to cost the club circa €12 million.

The journalist explains that Folorunsho’s status as a Lazio youth product will allow the club to register him on the Serie A and UEFA lists without any issues. Yet, the capital side is determined to trim the squad before Folorunsho’s arrival. The most likely candidate to depart is Toma Basic who returned to Formello following a loan spell at Salernitana.

Pedullà doesn’t expect Lazio to close the operation in the next few days, but the signatures could come following the first round of the Serie A campaign. Moreover, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims Lazio are hoping to secure a two-year loan deal with an obligation to buy afterwards.
