Lazio are reportedly evaluating the feasibility of signing Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz during the remaining days of the summer transfer session.

The Biancocelesti are still looking to complete their squad by adding one more midfielder to their ranks. And while Napoli wantaway Michael Folorunsho has been deemed the favourite, Alcaraz remains on Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani’s shortlist.

Italian news sources have been linking Lazio with a move for the 21-year-old, and further confirmation has arrived from transfer market guru Gianluca Di Marzio. The prominent journalist insists the Italian capital side is indeed interested in recruiting the Argentine.

Lazio Keeping Tabs on Alcaraz

Alcaraz joined the Saints in January 2023 after rising through the ranks of Racing Club. He made a solid first impression at St. Mary’s Stadium, even though the club’s campaign ended in a relegation to the English Championship. Last season, he spent the second half of his campaign on loan at Juventus but failed to leave his mark in Italian football.

So while the Bianconeri opted against maintaining his services, Lazio could offer Alcaraz a second chance to impress in Serie A. The Argentine can play as a box-to-box midfielder or as an attacking midfielder. His arrival would also solve an important dilemma for the Biancocelesti who have a saturated senior squad, as the club can simply register him on the Under-22 list.
