Lazio Seeking Another Left-Back: Two Main Candidates Emerge

Lazio are reportedly eyeing one more addition to the full-back department, thus rekindling their interest in Patrick Dorgu and Josh Doig.

Marco Baroni’s main options for their left-back role at the moment are Luca Pellegrini and Nuno Tavares. The Italian has been at the club since January 2023 but has yet to establish himself as a pillar in the starting formation.

As for the Portuguese, he sealed a move from Arsenal earlier this summer but has been dealing with an injury. Therefore, the Lazio manager had to shift Adam Marusic to the left flank on the opening day of the season against Venezia.

While the Montenegrin is no stranger to this role, Baroni would like to keep him in his original position at right-back, competing for a starting berth with Manuel Lazzari. On the other hand, Lazio are looking to offload Elseid Hysaj.

So according to La Lazio Siamo Noi, the Biancocelesti will attempt to add one more left-back to the squad to appease the coach. The source mentions to main candidates who have already been linked with the club earlier in the summer.

Lazio Set Sights on Dorgu & Doig

The first is Lecce’s Danish teenager Dorgu who was one of the best revelations of the Serie A campaign last season. The 19-year-old is tied to the Giallorossi with a contract that runs until June 2027.

The alternative option is Doig, a 22-year-old left-back who rose through the ranks of Hibernian and made a name for himself in Italy during his time at Hellas Verona. The Scotsman joined Sassuolo last January and ended up suffering relegation to Serie B. Therefore, a reunion with Baroni could offer him an escape route.

Both players would be eligible for the U22 list, which would be a major boost since the club’s senior squad list is already saturated.
