Lazio reportedly have an agreement in hand with Southampton midfielder Southampton Carlos Alcaraz, but must still overcome Flamengo in the race.

The Biancocelesti are still in the hunt for a midfielder who would complete Marco Baroni’s squad, and they view the Argentine as the right fit for the role. The 21-year-old is energetic, versatile and is young enough to be registered on the youth list, which would be a significant boost for the club at this point given how the senior quota is currently filled.

According to Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), the Italian capital side has chosen Alcaraz as their primary candidate to enhance the middle of the park. Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani has already found an agreement in principle with the player’s entourage over personal terms.

Lazio & Flamengo in Two-Horse Race for Alcaraz

The Aquile will now be looking to secure an accord with Southampton, but they’re facing stern competition from Flamengo who are trying to lure the South American to Brazil. Lazio are offering an initial loan deal with an option to buy that could become an obligation under certain conditions.

Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio also weighs on this transfer saga. He reveals that Flamengo have been working on signing the young midfielder for some time but haven’t been able to close the deal, leaving room for Lazio’s onslaught. The next few days will be decisive on this front.

Alcaraz joined the Saints in January 2023 and has a contract that runs until June 2028. The youngster spent the second half of the previous campaign on loan at Juventus, but couldn’t make a significant impact at Max Allegri’s court.

  1. No loans unless a definite commitment to buy. Saints have shown to be naive when dealing with Italian and Turkish clubs. We always lose out. Cash or nothing. Don’t be bullied.

  2. Alcaraz would be a great deal! Sign him. Offload Basic, Akak, Hysaj and Cataldi. They aren’t good enough for Lazio level.
