Lazio Pondering Late-Summer Swoop for Manchester United Defender

Lazio are considering a move for Manchester United centre-back Victor Lindelof in the final days of the summer transfer session.

The Biancocelesti have been searching the market for a new midfielder over the past few weeks, but their defensive issues have recently come to light, especially following the disappointing outings of their centre-back duo Alessio Romagnoli and Nicolo Casale in the defeat against Udinese. The latter is now linked with a late exit, possibly to Bologna.

Lazio are thus hoping to enhance Marco Baroni’s backline with a new arrival. Olympique Marseille outcast Samuel Gigot has emerged as a main candidate for the role. The Frenchman is deemed surplus to requirements at Roberto De Zebri’s court, but the Aquile are facing competition from other suitors for his signature.

Lazio Keeping an Eye on Lindelof

Therefore, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is linking Lazio with an alternative option, claiming the club is pondering a move for Man United’s Lindelof. The 30-year-old had his highs and lows at Old Trafford since signing for the Red Devils in 2017. This season, he could fall further down the pecking order following the arrivals of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt.

The Swedish international still has one year on his contract with the Premier League giants, so he could be available at a relatively affordable price. However, Italian journalist Matteo Petrucci cast some doubt on this operation during his appearance on Radio Laziale (via LazioNews24). He believes the Serie A club would struggle to afford Lindelof’s high wages, plus he doesn’t have a place on Lazio’s senior squad list which is currently full.
