Lazio Reach Agreement With Marseille For French Center-Back

Olympique Marseille have agreed to sell their defender Samuel Gigot to Lazio, according to Italian football journalist Matteo Moretto via Fabrizio Romano.

The 30-year-old has been plying his trade at the Stade Velodrome since January 2022. He has been a stalwart at the back for the Ligue side over the past few years but has seemingly lost his place in the squad following the arrival of new head coach Roberto De Zerbi who doesn’t consider him part of the project. Therefore, the Avignon native is apparently on his way out of the club.

Lazio Working on Reinforcing Baroni’s Backline by Signing Gigot

Moretto claims that the Biancocelesti already have an agreement in place with OM, but must now convince the player to join Marco Baroni’s ranks. The Italian coach has been seeking reinforcement at the back, especially following the disappointing displays of Nicolo Casale and Alessio Romagnoli last weekend against Udinese.

But according to Footmercato (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Italian capital side is facing competition from fellow Serie A clubs Torino and Bologna who are also keeping tabs on Gigot. Moreover, the player could be holding out for a financially lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League.

Therefore, the Frenchman is now reflecting on his next move but will have to render his decision in the next few days before the summer transfer window slams shut on Friday night.

Gigot was also linked with Lazio back in 2018 when Stefan de Vrij left the club to join Inter Milan, but the Biancocelesti eventually signed Francesco Acerbi.
