Olympique Marseille defender Samuel Gigot is set to join Lazio after reaching an agreement with the club.
The 30-year-old has been a stalwart for the Southern French side since joining the club in January 2022. However, he is now deemed surplus to requirements following the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi as head coach. The former Spartak Moscow defender has been told to find himself a new club before the end of the summer transfer session.
In recent hours, several reports in the Italian press claimed that Lazio have reached an agreement with OM over the player’s transfer. However, Biancocelesti could face competition for the defender’s signature, especially if he were to receive a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League.
Lazio Looking to Replace Casale with Gigot
Nevertheless, La Lazio Siamo Noi claims that Gigot has now agreed to sign for Lazio. The two clubs are currently exchanging the necessary documents as the transfer appears imminent. The Frenchman will complete a permanent transfer worth €3 million. He will sign a contract valid until June 2026 with an option for another year.
Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio also weighs in on this story. He reveals that Lazio have identified Gigot as the primary candidate to replace Nicolo Casale who is on his way to sealing a late-summer move to Bologna.
