Official: Danilo Cataldi Joins Fiorentina on Loan From Lazio

Lazio stalwart Danilo Cataldi has completed a deadline-day loan move to Fiorentina after seeing his rapport with the club deteriorate in recent months.

The 30-year-old is a youth product of the club. While he had loan spells at Crotone, Genoa and Benevento in the past, he has been plying his trade at the Stadio Olimpico since 2018. However, many sources believe Cataldi found the management’s decision to overlook him while selecting a new club captain hard to swallow.

The hierarchy appointed Mattia Zaccagni as Ciro Immobile’s heir, even though several senior players had voiced their support to Cataldi. Moreover, the midfielder has been at the bottom of Marco Baroni’s pecking order based on the first two outings of the Serie A campaign. Therefore, the writing has been on the wall for the Roman.

Fiorentina Sign Cataldi on Loan with Option to Buy

For their part, Fiorentina have pounced on the opportunity to sign the Lazio wantaway, especially since Sofyan Amrabat is simultaneously leaving Tuscany and heading towards Fenerbahce. The Viola will sign Cataldi on loan and will have the option to buy the player at the end of the season for a fee of around €5 million, reveals the note published on the official Lazio website.

SS Lazio announces that it has temporarily transferred the sporting contract of the footballer Danilo Cataldi with an option to purchase to ACF Fiorentina.

Cataldi’s contract with the Italian capital side remains valid until June 2027. So it remains to be seen if the Lazio youth product will ever don the Biancoceleste jersey again.
