Official: Lazio Sign Olympique Marseille Defender Gigot

Lazio have announced the capture of French defender Samuel Gigot who completed a transfer from Olympique Marseille.

The 30-year-old was a pillar at the back for the Southern French club over the past two and a half campaigns. However, his situation at the Velodrome drastically changed upon the arrival of new manager Roberto De Zerbi who decided not to include him in his plans. Gigot was told to find a new club, and Lazio eventually came knocking on the door.

The Biancocelesti opted to bolster their backline following a couple of shaky displays in the first rounds of the Serie A campaign. The Italian capital side parted ways with Nicolo Casale who signed for Bologna on loan with an obligation to buy earlier on deadline day.

Lazio Sign Gigot on Permanent Deal

Lazio have now announced the arrival of Gigot as a direct replacement through a statement posted on the club’s official website. The Frenchman has completed a loan move with an obligation to buy.

SS Lazio announces that it has temporarily acquired, with an obligation to redeem upon the occurrence of certain particular sporting conditions, the rights to the sporting performances of the footballer Samuel Gigot from Olympique Marseille. The French defender will wear the number 2 shirt.

While the official note didn’t reveal any figures, previous reports believed the defender only cost Lazio €3 million, as his contract with OM was set to expire at the end of the season.
