Lazio & Milan Share the Spoils in Back-Forth Affair

Lazio and Milan played out an entertaining draw at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome in one of the biggest tilts of Serie A matchday three. Both sides were desperate to make a statement after suffering surprising defeats in the previous round.

Boulaye Dia almost scored immediately on his full debut. He beat the onrushing Mike Maignan to the ball, but his touch lacked power, so Strahinja Pavlovic pulled off a goal-line clearance. A few minutes later, the Serbian defender was the protagonist once more for the Rossoneri, meeting Christian Pulusic’s corner kick with a towering header to put the visitors ahead.

Milan were the superior side throughout the first half, while Lazio failed to forge a proper response. Nevertheless, Marco Baroni’s men entered the pitch with a different attitude after the interval.

Lazio kept pushing for an equalizer and eventually grabbed it thanks to Nuno Tavares’ darting run on the left flank. The Portuguese picked up Taty Castellanos with a precise square ball, allowing the Argentine to volley it past Maignan.

Four minutes later, Tavares cemented himself as Lazio’s ultimate hero by creating another goal. The left-back combined well with Mattia Zaccagni on the flank before replicating his previous run to the byline. This time, it was Dia on the receiving end, sparking wild celebrations in front of the Curva Nord.

However, the exhilaration was short-lived as Rafael Leao, Theo Hernandez and Tammy Abraham made an instant impact after coming off the bench. The English striker marked his Milan debut by scoring the equalizer.

Both sides had some shy attempts in the final minutes, but seemed partially content to share the spoils and avoid a second defeat in a row. The Biancocelesti now have four points in the tally, while Milan remain winless.
