Lazio midfielder Toma Basic is reportedly on the cusp of sealing a return to his former club Hajduk Split.
The Croatian joined the Italian capital side in the summer of 2021 following an impressive stint at Bordeaux. However, he never truly managed to carve himself a regular starting spot at the club. Lazio sent him on loan to Salernitana for the second half of the previous campaign, but he returned to Formello in the summer following the Granata’s relegation to Serie B.
Basic has been an outcast at Marco Baroni’s court, as the new Lazio coach doesn’t intend to rely on his services. The club has been looking to offload the player, but hasn’t been able to do so thus far. The 27-year-old risks spending his campaign on the sidelines if he fails to find himself a new accommodation.
Hajduk Split Closing in on Basic Deal
But luckily for both Lazio and Basic, Hajduk Split have emerged on the scene. The midfielder played his football at the club between 2014 and 2018. According to LazioNews24, the Croatian giants are increasingly close to finalizing the operation and signing the Zagreb native on loan.
While the transfer market in Serie A and the other top European leagues has already closed on Friday, some of the other nations, like Croatia, have given their clubs a few more days to wrap up their transfer dealings, so Hajduk can still finalize the move in the next few hours.
