New Bologna Signing Opens up on Lazio Struggles, Blames “Environmental Issues”

While being unveiled as a new Bologna player, Nicolo Casale explains what went wrong for him at Lazio and prompted his summer exit.

The 26-year-old joined the Biancocelesti in 2022 after making his big breakthrough at Hellas Verona. He enjoyed a solid first campaign in the Italian Capital, but his performances took a dip last term. He also endured a miserable outing recently against Udinese, and it proved to be the final nail in his Lazio career.

The Aquile decided to shake up their backline by offloading Casale and replacing him with Samuel Gigot. The Italian defender thus joined Bologna on loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

Casale Reveals Reasons Behind Lazio Struggles

The Negrar native opened up on his Lazio struggles in his first press conference as a Rossoblu player, explaining how the environment didn’t help his case (via Alfredo Pedulla).

The first year at Lazio was extraordinary. But, then, and for several reasons, I struggled to replicate my performances in the following campaign. It was also due to environmental issues that had arisen. I knew what I could give but I just couldn’t get it out. I immediately felt great trust at Bologna and that was exactly what I was missing.

As soon as I arrived, I felt a different energy. Last year I saw a great Bologna, now the coach has changed and there are many things to fix. I know the coach, the players and some of my new teammates too, I am confident because I believe we have a strong squad.

Casale is itching to make his Bologna debut and become a protagonist at the club, and perhaps even a leader.

I want to lend a hand to my teammates, even the foreigners. Having spoken to the coach, I have already understood very well what he wants. Now training will begin and I’m looking forward to lending a hand. Given my physical height, I think I have a good long stride, but there are many things I can improve and I will try to do so.
