Lazio coach Marco Baroni only had words of praise when discussing his new signing Nuno Tavares who’s coming off an exhilarating debut against Milan.
The Biancocelesti signed the 24-year-old in July on loan from Arsenal with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. The Portuguese sustained an injury that kept him out for the vast majority of pre-season. Nevertheless, the left-back appeared as if he didn’t miss a beat when making his Serie A debut at the Stadio Olimpico.
Tavares proved to be an unstoppable force on the left flank, leaving his markers in the dust to create Taty Castellanos and Boulaye Dia’s goals with almost two similar assists, cementing himself as the ultimate Man of the Match in what was an entertaining back-and-forth encounter.
Baroni Dwells On Nuno Tavares’ Immense Potential
In an interview with Radio Serie A (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Baroni hailed his new left-back who managed to prove his worth despite his recent injury woes.
Tavares is a player who possesses great potential. No wonder he was an Arsenal player. We must now put him on the right path. He did very well against Milan, we were waiting for him because he had a small injury following his arrival.
He started his last match in February, but you can still see his great potential. I’m convinced that we’ll create the right fabric and structure for him to give his best and improve even further.
The Portuguese full-back made a name for himself at Benfica before joining the Gunners in 2021. After failing to cement himself as a starter in North London, he spent the previous two campaigns on loan at Marseille and Nottingham Forest.
