Lazio returned to winning ways on Monday with a precious victory over their visitors Hellas Verona at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The Biancocelesti’s last victory dates back to the opening day against Venezia, so Marco Baroni was determined to collect all three points against his former employers.

First Half: Lazio 2-1 Verona

The home side had a dream start as Boulaye Dia made it two goals in two starts this season. Mattia Zaccagni found the Senegalese with a lovely long ball, but the latter still had much to do. Nevertheless, he managed to find just enough space between his markers to place a low drive past Lorenzo Montipo.

However, Lazio’s unsavoury streak of conceding in the first ten minutes has been prolonged, as the Gialloblu found an instant equalizer. The hosts were penetrated from the center of the pitch as Grigoris Kastanos’ through ball left Alessio Romagnoli and Mario Gila in the dust, allowing Casper Tengstedt to beat Ivan Provedel.

Nicolo Rovella almost restored Lazio’s lead with a long-range pearler but was denied by Montipo. But it didn’t take Zaccagni too long to create another goal for the hosts, as his corner kick found Taty Castellanos who warded off his marker to direct the ball home.

Second Half: Lazio 2-1 Verona

The Aquile had several chances to add to their lead in the second half, but Montipo produced sensational saves on Dia and Nuno Tavares, while Zaccagni missed a sitter in the late stages.

Nevertheless, Lazio did enough to earn the desired result, raising their tally to seven points from four fixtures. They now sit sixth in the Serie A table.
