While Milan are reportedly considering sacking Paulo Fonseca, former Lazio managers Maurizio Sarri and Igor Tudor have emerged as the two main candidates for the hot seat. The Rossoneri appointed the Portuguese manager last summer after putting an end to Stefano Pioli’s four-and-a-half-years stint at Milanello.

However, Fonseca has only managed to register a single win in the first four rounds of Serie A, while a defeat at home at the hands of Liverpool in midweek left him in an increasingly precarious position. Therefore, many believe that a negative result in Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina against Inter would spell the end of the 51-year-old’s time at the club.

Therefore, the Italian media is already speculating over the identity of the potential new manager. According to La Repubblica (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Sarri and Tudor are vying for the role. Both men have been on the shelf since leaving Lazio.

The Italian veteran resigned from his post in March, with the Croatian coming in as a replacement. However, Tudor failed to reach an agreement with the management over the transfer policy, so they decided to part ways in June, making way for Marco Baroni.

As the source tells it, Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has identified Sarri as the ideal profile to lead the club. On the other hand, Zlatan Ibrahimovic views Tudor as the right man for the role due to his strong character and his ability to implement some discipline in the locker room.
