Former Lazio winger Felipe Anderson was expecting to end his playing career in the Italian capital, at least before the opportunity to return home presented itself.

The 31-year-old had two spells with the Biancocelesti, the first as a young and aspiring winger which dates all the way back to 2013. The Brazilian credits his sister Juliana (who serves as his agent) for guiding him to Formello. In an interview with TNT Sports (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Anderson explains how his sister knew Lazio would be the right club for him to develop his game.

My sister left everything to dedicate herself to my career and fulfill my dreams, one of which was to play in Italy. Juliana decided to take a flight to the Penisula and that’s how she discovered Lazio, a club that she immediately liked. Therefore, she started negotiating with the management.

I was supposed to arrive to Lazio in January 2013 but instead, the move was postponed to June. She told me I would improve technically and physically at this club. Juliana had already envisioned me wearing the Lazio shirt and I must say that everything worked out perfectly.

Anderson’s first spell at Lazio ended in 2018, when he made the big-money switch to West Ham United. But aside from a few flashes of brilliance, his time in East London never truly peaked. It also included a brief loan stint at Porto. But in the end, the Brazilian sealed a return to Lazio in 2021, rekindling his love affair with the Aquile.

The winger instantly regained his status as a pillar at the club, reconnecting with the likes of Ciro Immobile and Luis Alberto. But while Anderson would have been happy to stay at the Stadio Olimpico for the rest of his career, he eventually opted to return to Brazil when Palmeiras came knocking on the door.

Neither I nor the ones around had ever imagined that my adventure in Biancoceleste would end. They thought I would stay for a long time.

Even though I had received an offer from the president to stay even beyond my playing career, at the same time when the opportunity to return home arose, I immediately took it into consideration because I had been away for a long time. The time had come to leave the club that saw me grow and return to Brazil.
