Lazio coach Marco Baroni refused to get demotivated by his side’s controversial defeat at the hands of Fiorentina.

The Biancocelesti took the lead at the Artemio Franchi thanks to Mario Gila’s header, but two penalty kicks in the second half turned the result upside-down in favour of the home side. Therefore, the 60-year-old was disappointed with the referee who awarded dubious spot-kicks to Fiorentina but refused to do likewise for Lazio in a similar incident.

But aside from the controversial episodes, Baroni tried to pick up the positives from his team’s display in Florence.

Baroni Won’t Change Playing System After Lazio Defeat

In his post-match press conference (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the coach insisted the team is moving in the right direction, so he has no plans to change his attacking 4-2-3-1 system.

When I made the changes I thought I could win the game. I don’t like to give the team the input to drop back at any moment. We are building our identity and there are many positive takeaways.

I try to put my players in the best conditions, I don’t want to change the playing system. We made the change for a reason, as the team wasn’t producing enough shots on goal. But now it’s quite the opposite.

We’ve already scored a lot. I don’t know the exact data for this round but we were first for corners and shots on target. We’re continuing on this path. I’m not worried, as long as the team is working on both phases, we’re on the right path.

Words on Gaetano Castrovilli & Tijjani Noslin

Baroni also heaped praise on Gaetano Castrovilli who started against his former club, while defending Tijjani Noslin’s performance.

Castrovilli is one of the best midfielders in Italy. He can do everything because he has real quality. For me, he can cover all the midfield roles, including the number 10.

Noslin was very mobile, he kept their defense busy. He’s clearly a young player with much room for improvement. I felt he had a good performance.
