Following their mid-week victory in the Europa League, Lazio also returned to winning ways in Serie A by prevailing over shock league leaders Torino in an entertaining clash.
First Half: Torino 0-1 Lazio
The Biancocelesti broke the deadlock in the eighth minute. It all began when Taty Castellanos managed to hold off two opponents in a physical duel in the middle of the park. Nuno Tavares suddenly emerged from the dust with a vicious run to the byline before cutting back the ball to Matteo Guendouzi. The Frenchman’s shot was too central, but Alberto Paleari’s vision was impeded by the traffic in front of him.
Ivan Provedel then produced a superb shot to deny Ivan Ilic’s half-volley, allowing the capital side to head to the interval with a slim lead.
Second Half: Torino 2-3 Lazio
After the break, a wonderful team play yielded Lazio’s second. Castellanos freed up Gustav Isaksen on the right wing and the latter picked up Boulaye Dia who slotted it home expertly to extend his scintillating run.
Afterwards, super-sub Che Adams pulled one back after creating just enough space for himself to launch a low drive. However, the Granata’s comeback hopes were dealt with a major blow, as Tijjani Noslin atoned for his midweek dismissal by latching on a loose ball to restore Lazio’s two-goal cushion right after his introduction.
Nevertheless, the exciting match-up kept the best for last, with Saul Coco scoring from a fabulous acrobatic effort, albeit it wasn’t enough to prevent Torino’s first defeat of the campaign. Hence, the Granata relinquished their first place in the table, while Lazio raised their tally to 10 points from the first six rounds of the season.
