Lazio summer signing Boulaye Dia is enjoying a sensational start to life in the Italian capital, and is now leading the scoring charts for African players in Europe’s Top Five Leagues.

The 27-year-old joined the Biancocelesti in August, escaping his Salernitana abyss. While many observers were expecting him to serve as an understudy for Taty Castellanos, Lazio coach Marco Baroni is finding enough room for both in his 4-2-3-1 system, deploying the Senegalese just behind the Argentine bomber.

But whether he’s being deployed as a second striker or a centre-forward, Dia has been incredibly proficient in front of goal. The Oyonnax native has thus far scored three goals in five Serie A appearances, while also bagging a brace in his solitary Europa League fixture thus far. Moreover, the attacker scored two goals in his final Coppa Italia outing for Salernitana before departing.

Dia Leads The Scoring Charts for Africans in Europe’s Top 5 Leagues

With seven goals in seven appearances across all competitions, Dia is the most prolific African player among those plying their trade in Europe’s Top Five Leagues thus far this season, reveals Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).

As the source explains, Dia is even ahead of Mohamed Salah who’s enjoying a prolific start to the campaign under the guidance of new Liverpool boss Arne Slot. The former Fiorentina and Roma star has five goals and four assists in eight outings this season. So it remains to be seen if Dia can prolong his superb run and continue to deliver the goods for Baroni’s team.

  1. He is indeed impressive, moves like a gazelle with the strength of a lion and has technique too. Likely our best signing and was very much needed, considering the 3 names that left this summer (Ciro, Mago and Pipe).

Well done on this one Fabiani and I must tip my hat for NOT signing Kamada, these 2 have been by far the two best decisions this mercato. C’mon Lazio 🩵🤍🦅
