Lazio are once again working on extending the contract of their second-choice goalkeeper Christos Mandas.

The Greek joined the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2023 after completing his transfer from OFI Crete FC. The 23-year-old managed to impress in the final months of the previous campaign when he filled in for the injured Ivan Provedel. But with the Italy international available for selection once more, Mandas was again relegated to the bench.

The young shot-stopper had to wait for the second matchday of the UEFA Europa League Group Stage to make his first appearance of the season. Despite conceding a goal, he still produced a solid display in the 4-1 victory over OGC Nice; Marco Baroni insists the Greece international is an added value for the club and will have an important role to play in the future.

Lazio Working on Mandas Contract Renewal

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio have reignited their contract talks with the goalkeeper’s father who was spotted at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday night.

Mandas is currently at the very bottom of the club’s wage bill, earning €100,000 per season. The player’s entourage is asking for €800,000, while the management is offering €500,000; therefore, it remains to be seen if the two parties will manage to reach an agreement in the coming weeks.

The Roman newspaper confirms Mandas was a transfer target of Manchester City last summer, albeit talks of an offer worth €20 million was an exaggeration. The Premier League champions wanted to add the Greek goalkeeper to their Under-23 squad.
