Lazio are reportedly reflecting on whether to bring back Elseid Hysaj to the fold amidst Manuel Lazzari’s injury, or keep the squad list intact.

The Italian has been a regular feature in Marco Baroni’s lineup, starting in all of the club’s seven Serie A fixtures thus far this season. However, the 30-year-old picked up an injury in Lazio’s most recent outing against Empoli, forcing him to leave his place on the pitch in the 38th minute for Adam Marusic.

Why Reinstating Hysaj Could Be Risky for Lazio

After undergoing the required medical tests, the results revealed Lazzari suffered a medium-grade muscle injury in the left thigh. While the club’s medical staff didn’t offer a timetable for the recovery, many believe the right-back could be out for several weeks.

So according to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Biancocelesti are considering reinstating Hysaj in the Serie A list. The Albanian was left out of the original squad due to the lack of space.

The 30-year-old is a versatile full-back who can feature on either flank, but Baroni preferred two other options for each lane (Lazzari and Marusic on the right, and Tavares and Pellegrini on the left). Nevertheless, the source explains that this could be a risky move for Lazio, as they would have to wait until January to re-add Lazzari to the Serie A list.

That’s why Baroni could opt against this maneuver. The coach would thus rely on Marusic as the primary option at right-back, while Patric would be able to cover in this position if required, especially once Samuel Gigot fully recovers from his injury.
