Lazio will reportedly reignite their interest in Napoli midfielder Michael Folorunsho in the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old is a versatile midfielder who spent his formative years (between 2014 and 2017) at Lazio before being released. The 26-year-old has been on Napoli’s books since 2019, but has often been plying his trade away on loan. Last season, the Italian enjoyed his big breakthrough campaign at Hellas Verona under the guidance of Marco Baroni.

Lazio Still Interested in Folorunsho

Hence, the Biancocelesti were keen to bring back their former academy player and reunite him with his old Reggina and Verona mentor. On the other hand, the Partenopei were looking to offload the midfielder who failed to convince Antonio Conte in pre-season. And yet, the deal never materialized, as the two clubs failed to reach an agreement over the formula.

But according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lazio could revive their attempts to sign Folorunsho in January. Claudio Lotito and Co. were only willing to sign the player on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season. However, the pink newspaper believes the Aquile could finally agree to add an obligation-to-buy clause, as requested by Napoli.

Moreover, Lazio wouldn’t have any trouble registering Folorunsho in their squad list as he’s considered a youth product of the club. The Roman native was reinstated to Conte’s squad after the end of the summer transfer session, but he only made one brief cameo since, featuring for 17 minutes in the goalless draw against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium.
