Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzi will reportedly get some well-deserved rest when the Italian capital side takes on FC Twente in their upcoming UEFA Europa League fixture.

Marco Baroni to Rest Matteo Guendouzi Against FC Twente

The France international returned from international duty with a bruised toe sustained in last week’s UEFA Nations League contest against Belgium. Nevertheless, the tests ruled out a fracture, so the 25-year-old gritted his teeth to make himself available for last weekend’s Serie A clash against Juventus.

Despite his team’s losing effort, the former Arsenal and Marseille star produced a solid display in the middle of the park alongside Nicolo Rovella. However, according to Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), Marco Baroni will drop the midfielder for Thursday’s European contest against FC Twente.

Matias Vecino to Take His Place Alongside Nicolo Rovella

The Lazio manager often rotates his squad in the Europa League, and Guendouzi’s condition warrants a change in the double-pivot roles.

Therefore, the 61-year-old will likely entrust Matias Vecino with a starting berth after overcoming a slight injury. The Uruguayan replaced the Frenchman in the second half at the Allianz Stadium; for his part, Guendouzi will start his match on the bench against FC Twente, but Baroni will still resort to his services if needed.

The Aquile currently lead the Europa League group-stage table with six points and a +6 goal difference, so they’ll be looking to earn their third straight win in the Netherlands.
