Lazio winger Loum Tchaouna was allegedly the target of racist abuse from a section of FC Twente fans during Thursday’s UEFA Europa League contest in Enschede.
The Biancocelesti made it three wins on the trot in the competition, pouncing on their numerical advantage to beat their Dutch hosts by two unanswered goals courtesy of Pedro and Gustav Isaksen. However, the contest was marred by a regretful event, as a section of the home supporters aimed racist slurs toward Tchaouna, reports La Lazio Siamo Noi.
The Incident With Loum Tchaouna
The situation reached its climax after Isaksen’s goal when Tchaouna was visibly furious. Pedro immediately tried to calm his teammate while urging Marco Baroni to take action. The manager obliged by immediately replacing the young Frenchman with Mario Gila. Baroni then confirmed the ugly episode in his post-match press conference (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).
Yes, an unpleasant episode occurred. There were howls that we reported to the referee. I was about to take off Pedro, but then I decided to change and haul off Tchaouna insted because he lost his serenity.
It’s incomprehensible, we tried to calm the lad down. [Fisayo] Dele-Bashiru also received racist chants, it’s something unspeakable.
Tchaouna was still livid following his exit. He was seen telling his teammates in the dugout that he had been racially abused. It remains to be seen how UEFA will react to this despicable act.
Racial abuse Still happening in 2024…some people are just plain STUPID.
