Lazio are reportedly looking to poach the services of Monza attacking midfielder Daniel Maldini in January.
Background on Daniel Maldini
The 23-year-old is the son of Milan icon Paolo Maldini and the grandson of the late great Cesare Maldini. Thanks to his elusive pedigree, he naturally started his career at the Rossoneri’s youth academy but eventually had to leave the nest in search of playing time.
After loan stints at Spezia and Empoli, the Italian signed for Monza last January on loan, before making his move permanent in the summer. Since then, Maldini has been making leaps and bounds under the guidance of Alessandro Nesta, despite the club’s complicated start to the season. This even earned the young man his senior international debut earlier this month.
Lazio Contemplating January Move for Monza Youngster
The midfielder’s exploits haven’t gone unnoticed, as the Italian press has been recently linking him with the likes of Inter and Juventus, even though Milan would have a significant advantage if they decide to pursue their former player thanks to a 50% sell-on fee, which would translate into a discount.
But according to Italian journalist Damiano Er Faina, Lazio have now entered the race for the young Maldini. The Biancocelesti insider claims that the Italian capital side is considering making a move for the Italy international as early as January.
Lazio have been working on lowering the average age of their squad, as evidenced by the major summer overhaul, so Maldini’s profile is well-aligned with the management’s current policy.
