After guiding Lazio towards a last-gasp victory over Porto, Pedro explained what truly changed at the club this season while also discussing his own future.
The 37-year-old settled the Europa League tie by scoring the added-time winner, sparking wild celebrations at the Stadio Olimpico. This win extended the Biancocelesti’s rosy patch while consolidating the club’s place on top of the Europa League table with a perfect record after four matchdays.
Significant Result
In his post-match interviews in the mixed zone (via Lazio Siamo Noi), Pedro hailed his team’s performance against the Portuguese giants.
It’s a very important victory. We are the only team that has won them all, but the journey is still long, so we must continue on the same path. It was a beautiful victory, we played very well against a very strong opponent like Porto.
Pedro on Lazio Future
The experienced attacker revealed that Lazio president Claudio Lotito has been urging him to extend his stay at the club beyond the current campaign.
I’m 37, but I’m in a good form. We haven’t talked about the renewal yet, it’s something I haven’t thought about yet. But we’ve spoken many times with the coach, and the president often jokes about it, he tells me ‘you have to stay, you’re still doing great’. I don’t know, we’ll see how the season ends and then we’ll make a decision.
Plaudits for Baroni
The Biancocelesti have now won nine of their last 10 outings across all competitions. The former Barcelona and Chelsea star also credited Lazio coach Marco Baroni for the team’s upturn.
Many things have changed at Lazio, most importantly the coach. He and his staff are doing a great job. The same goes for the nutritionist, the doctor and everyone at the club. The new players have also contributed to creating a strong squad, which mixes experience with youth.
This is a united group that works hard. Now we must not fall into euphoria, but maintain this mentality. As long as we can do so, we’ll be diffucult to beat.
Pedro is in the beast form, really unstoppable.
Nice to see Lazio to have different shining in different matches, it creates a better atmosphere for the group than only one or two stars always shining all the time.
Yes but there is a constant: Rovella. Every time he is playing, Lazio look more secure, organised, calm.
Vecino is doing great every time called upon, the cohesion is growing and in theory, we have a LOT of room for improvement not only as a team, but as specific players. Marusic is an example that in my humble opinion is to be studied. It is a real battle with Lazzari and Luca the same, keeping the pan hot for Nuno (who is right now unstoppable) . Do people realise that this means that in training they always get the best out of eachother. There is no other players involved, we don’t play friendlies as training agter the pre-match so all they have is eachother and the higher the competition the better the fruits of the training. Masterclass Baroni
Really loving the team chemistry now..lazio now playing as a Unit and not a bunch of retards . NO OFFENCE
Well lol, say clowns or headless chicken or whatever but don’t call the retards ffs 😂
Baroni deserves all the credit off the pitch, the lads on it, all of them, but my main guy os between Nuno and Rovella.
Nunos numbers are so impressive that unless Rovella chips in every 2-3 matches with a goal contribution, I can’t give it to this young maestro .
Ps: when I hear people who say that even seeing Maestrellis Lazio play, and every Lazio since then, they haven’t seen the hunger of Baronis I am speechless 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
