Lazio star Mattia Zaccagni expressed his delight with Marco Baroni’s tactical philosophy after guiding the club to an important victory over Monza.
The 29-year-old scored the goal that separated the two sides at the U-Power Stadium, and earned the Biancocelesti their sixth win on the trot in all competitions. Lazio are now on par on points with second-placed Atalanta, as well as Fiorentina and Inter, with only one point separating the four clubs from league leaders Napoli.
Mattia Zaccagni Hails Marco Baroni
In his post-match interview via La Lazio Siamo Noi, Zaccagni credited his coach Baroni for the team’s purple patch, while explaining how the 61-year-old is giving him all the freedom he needs to thrive in his role.
It was a fantastic victory. Perhaps we arrived tired, but we gave everything we had and displayed our character. I am really happy with this team. I get along very well with the coach’s gameplan, as he leaves me free to interpret my role in my own way.
Collaboration with Nuno Tavares
The Lazio skipper also discussed his connection with Nuno Tavares on the left flank.
I get along very well with Tavares, we often switch positions, but perhaps I’m less mobile than him. These are all solutions that the coach gives us, but he leaves us free to interpret them.
Mattia Zaccagni Greets Lazio Fans
Zaccagni praised their travelling supporters for making them feel at home, while insisting Monza must not be underestimated.
Our fans are fantastic. We felt their warm support. It was as if we were playing at home. So thank you very much!
Winning 1-0 while suffering but remaining united is the leap in quality that the team needs. Monza have quality players and play good football. Obviously, they are in an uncomfortable situation, but they will get out of it.
Alla Del Piero Goal
The Italy international’s goal evoked memories of Alessandro Del Piero’s trademark strike. Therefore, Zaccagni took the opportunity to greet the Juventus icon on his 50th birthday.
I wished Alex a happy birthday. I’m really happy to have scored this goal. Now let’s get some rest for a while and then start thinking about Bologna.
