Lazio forward Pedro sees himself at Formello beyond his playing career, while reserving a stingy comment for his old employers Roma.
The Spaniard started his playing days at Barcelona where he won a host of trophies alongside Lionel Messi, Xavi and other iconic figures. He then found further success during his time at Chelsea before arriving at the Italian capital through the gates of Roma in 2020.
Pedro Aims Dig at Roma
The veteran only spent a single season at Triogoria before being released by the Giallorossi. Afterwards, he pulled off a rare move by making a direct switch between the two blood rivals. But despite his past at Roma, Pedro endeared himself to the Laziali who now consider him a club idol. So in his interview with Il Messaggero (via Calciomercato), the winger couldn’t resist taking a dig at his former club.
Roma represents the past for me. In fact, they made the best decision at the time in sending me away, so I thank them for allowing me to join the first team of the Capital, that is Lazio of course.
Rapport with Marco Baroni
The 2010 World Cup winner has been revitalized this season, and he gives credit to Lazio boss Marco Baroni while explaining his role in the group.
Baroni has revived me, it’s true. He treats me as if I was a member of his technical staff, asking me for advice on how to help the group. This responsibility makes me perform better. I know that I have to give more than the others, so I can overcome biological limits that I would not have imagined.
Pedro Sees Himself at Lazio Following Retirement
Although his contract with the club will expire in June, Pedro sees himself at Lazio beyond his playing days.
Yes, I would like a managerial role in the future. It would be wonderful to have a role at Lazio, maybe even as a coach in a few years.
One More Trophy
Finally, the Spaniard reveals he is hellbent on winning a trophy before ending his stint at Lazio.
My dream is to win a trophy here before I stop. I would be the happiest man in the world. We are one of the clubs that aspire to the Europa League, we are first in the group and we can do it. The new formula can help us reach the Round of 16, without relegated clubs from the Champions League.
Then there will be the double encounters, and we’ll have to take on very strong teams like Man United, Tottenham. The road is still long but we have to try. If we win the trophy, I’m ready to dive into the Trevi Fountain, if they give me permission and don’t arrest me (laughs).
Dajee PEDRO!!!! Lazio will need to win a trophy this season for Pedro.
