The Lazio scouts will be in attendance in Sunday’s big showdown in the Bulgarian league to keep an eye on CSKA Sofia’s James Eto’o.

The Player’s Background

The 23-year-old is a defensive midfielder born and raised in Cameroon. He started his European career in the youth academy of FC Nantes and then spent a campaign with Boulougne before leaving France to join Botev Plovdiv in 2021. After making a name for himself in Bulgaria, he was poached by one of the country’s biggest clubs, CSKA Sofia, in September.

Lazio Monitoring James Eto’o

Eto’o has been growing from strength to strength this season, earning himself several admirers across Europe. According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani will send scouts to keep an eye on the young Cameroonian in Sunday’s clash against local rivals Ludogorets who also happen to be the Biancocelesti’s next opponents in the Europa League.

Why Lazio Need a New Midfielder

As the source explains, the Aquile feel the need to bolster their midfield department. Nicolo Rovella and Matteo Guendouzi have established themselves as the main options in the double pivot, while Matias Vecino remains the first alternative. On the other hand, Gaetano Castrovilli is still enduring torrid times with injuries, while Fisayo Dele-Bashiru hasn’t completely convinced in the deeper role, appearing much more at ease when playing as an attacking midfielder.
