After aiming a dig at his former employers Roma, Lazio attacker Pedro has reportedly been on the receiving end of threats and insults.
The Background
The 2010 World Cup spent a single campaign with the Giallorossi before being released in June 2021. His former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri then invited him to sign for the Biancocelesti, and he gradually earned the love and admiration of the Laziali. He thus joined an elusive group of players who made the direct switch between the two blood rivals of the Italian capital.
The Dig
In a recent interview, the 37-year-old discussed his great attachment to the Lazio cause, revealing he’d like to stay at the club even beyond his playing days. Moreover, the former Barcelona star couldn’t prevent himself from aiming a dig at Roma, ‘thanking’ them for giving him the opportunity to join the best club in the Italian capital, in reference to his Lazio transfer.
Pedro Threatened by Section of Roma Fans
Obviously, this comment didn’t sit well with the Giallorossi faithful. According to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Pedro has been receiving threats and insults from angered Roma supporters on social media throughout the week. Moreover, some ‘fans’ took a step further in their despicable acts, threatening the player in private.
Heated Rivalry
This certainly isn’t the first episode of its kind involving the two Derby della Capitale foes, as the heated rivalry between the two clubs at times produces shameful acts from a section of the supporters, so some might argue that the players must take extra heed when mentioning the opposition.
