Lazio are looking to reward Marco Baroni for his exceptional work in the first few months of his tenure by extending his contract.

The Background

The 61-year-old found remarkable success at Lecce and Hellas Verona in the previous campaigns, but a section of the Biancocelesti fanbase rolled their eyes upon his arrival at Formello, believing he lacks the experience of managing a big and ambitious club like Lazio.

Winning Over the Naysayers

Nevertheless, the Florence native has been proving his doubters wrong. Lazio currently sit fifth in the Serie A table, just two points behind league leaders Atalanta. They also top the 36-team Europa League group stage table, and have recently eliminated Napoli en route to the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. Aside from the positive results, Lazio are also displaying fabulous football despite undergoing a major summer overhaul.

Lazio Working On New Marco Baroni Contract

So according to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lazio president Claudio Lotito has prepared a new and improved contract for Baroni, as he aims to lock down the tactician for years to come. As the source explains, the hierarchy has set the plan in motion, as the talks between the two parties could kickstart around Christmas, while a decisive meeting could ensue at the beginning of the year.

Deadline & Salary

Baroni’s current deal is valid until June 2026, but the club aims to push back the deadline until 2027 with an option to 2028. The alternative option would be extending the contract directly to June 2028. Moreover, the coach’s current salary is circa €1 million plus bonuses. The report expects this figure to be doubled once he inks a new contract.
