Luca Pellegrini could be set to remain on the sidelines at Lazio for the rest of the season, as his transfer to Besiktas will be difficult to materialize.
Back-to-Back Omissions
Although he wasn’t Marco Baroni’s first choice for the left-back slot (that would be Nuno Tavares), the Italian was getting regular playing time, especially in the Europa League. But out of the blue, the 25-year-old was omitted from both Serie A and UEFA squad lists. The manager preferred to register Elseid Hysaj despite his injury, and even Toma Basic got the nod on the Serie A list.
The Exit Route
Therefore, reports from Turkiye suggested Pellegrini could be on his way to Istanbul to reunite with Ciro Immobile. These sources claimed that Besiktas are keen to land the player on loan for the rest of the season, and even made a concrete approach.
Luca Pellegrini to Besiktas Denied
However, Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur exclusively revealed to The Laziali that Pellegrini won’t be making the move to Besiktas. The transfer market insider was told by a member of the player’s entourage that the deal is implausible due to the bureaucratic hurdles since the left-back is still owned by Juventus.
The Lazio Ploy?
Pellegrini has been at Lazio since January 2023, but he’s the Bianconeri remain his parent club. The Biancocelesti will have the obligation to buy him for €4 million at the end of the season.
Nonetheless, many observers speculate that this clause will only be triggered once the full-back completes a certain number of appearances, so Lazio are trying to avoid this scenario by excluding him from their plans.
He is a good player, but not good enough based on his performances this season. Maybe it’s better to leave him on the sidelines for the rest of the season and then the redemption expires. Lazio need a better stunt for Tavares next season.
