Fenerbahce are reportedly interested in Lazio midfielder Matias Vecino as they look to bolster Jose Mourinho’s squad.

The Background

The 33-year-old has been plying his trade in Italian football since joining Fiorentina in 2013. After representing Cagliari, Empoli and Inter Milan, the midfielder signed for Lazio on a free transfer in the summer of 2022. He cemented himself as a pillar for the Biancocelesti in the last couple of years, and he remains an important backup option for Marco Baroni in the middle of the park.

The End is Near?

The Uruguay international is currently on his way towards making a full recovery from an injury that has kept him on the sidelines for months. However, his time at Formello could come to an end in the summer, as his contract will expire in June.

Fenerbahce Interested in Matias Vecino

According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, Fenerbahce are keeping tabs on Vecino. Although Turkish clubs can still sign new players until February 11th, the Istanbul-based giants aren’t targeting an immediate deal, but are hoping to sign the veteran in the summer as a free agent.

Alessandro Lucci’s Role

As the transfer market insider reveals, the player’s agent Alessandro Lucci has an excellent rapport with Fenerbahce, as he already oversaw the transfers of two of his clients (Edin Dzeko and Filip Kostic) from Serie A to the Turkish giants.

On the other hand, La Lazio Siamo Noi believes Vecino would be more enticed by a return to Uruguay having spent the last 12 years in Italy.
