At the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo, Venezia and Lazio fired blank in a forgettable draw that didn’t help either side’s case.

Lazio Starting Lineup

With Taty Castellanos out with an injury, Marco Baroni started with Tijjani Noslin upfront, supported by Gustav Isaksen, Boulaye Dia and Mattia Zaccagni. In the middle of the park, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru replaced the suspended Nicolo Rovella alongside Matteo Guendouzi.

However, the Nigerian’s afternoon ended prematurely after sustaining a knock in the first half. He was replaced by Reda Belahyane who made his club debut. But the most interesting selection was the introduction of Christos Mandas in place of the out-of-form Ivan Provedel.

Tepid First Half

The first period proved to be a snoozefest with little to no chances on both ends of the pitch. Nevertheless, the Biancocelesti did have a glorious opportunity that went begging as Dia’s shot went begging after being put through by Zaccagni.

Venezia the More Dangerous side

Aside from the long-range effort from Gustav Isaksen early in the second half, Lazio never truly threatened Andrei Radu’s goal. In fact, it was Venezia who looked like scoring, especially in the final 20 minutes. Alessio Zerbin’s freekick was met by Mirko Maric’s header, but the ball whistled past the post.

Mandas then produced a superb save to deny Gaetano Oristania’s low drive, while John Yeboah had the opportunity to win it in extra time, but his effort was too tame to trouble the goalkeeper. In the end, Lazio survived the onslaught to return home with a solitary point, but they now risk falling behind Juventus in the race for the coveted 4th place.

  1. Poor performance overall. Noslin was almost invisible to give some shootings. Dele Bashiru is not suitable for this role which needs more vision. The first touch was always poor to let the pushing opponents close down the space.
