Lazio are left to sweat over the condition of their captain Mattia Zaccagni ahead of Thursday’s Europa League contest.
Big Trip Ahead in the UEFA Europa League
The Biancocelesti are currently preparing to resume their European campaign. On Wednesday, they will travel to the Czech Republic to take on Viktoria Plzen on Thursday in the first leg of the Round of 16. However, they might have to do so without their skipper and most influential star.
Lazio Captain Mattia Zaccagni Could Miss Viktoria Plzen Clash
According to Radiosei, Zaccagni is suffering from a muscle strain in the calf. The player underwent clinical tests on Tuesday morning, and luckily, the results ruled out any serious issues. Nevertheless, Marco Baroni and his staff aren’t prepared to take any risks.
Therefore, the winger will be closely monitored in the final training session before Wednesday’s flight. If he doesn’t prove his full fitness, he will likely be left in Rome, allowing him to slowly regain his best condition for next Monday’s Serie A contest against Udinese as well as the decisive second leg against Viktoria Plzen.
Noticeable Absence
Despite having the likes of Pedro and Gustav Isaksen on the wings, Zaccagni’s absence would certainly be felt, especially with Taty Castellanos also out with a muscle injury. With 10 goals and eight assists to his name, the 29-year-old has more goal contributions than any other Lazio player this season.
Alessio Romagnoli & Adam Marusic Also Doubtful
In addition to Zaccagni, Alessio Romagnoli is also doubtful for the midweek trip, while Adam Marusic is expected to be dropped after picking up a knock from Theo Hernandez during Sunday’s contest against AC Milan.
